About Us
Who we are
  • We are associated with the Arab Women’s Union in Beit Sahour, part of Greater Bethlehem in the West Bank
  • We provide services to Moderately Intellectually Disabled youth and young adults
  • We are a non-profit organization with no specific religious or political affiliations
  • We are a special education vocational training center for youth and young adults with Moderate Intellectual Disabilities.

History

Al Basma Center was founded in 1987 as a modest project to provide services to five disabled youth and young adults in the politically conflicted area of the West Bank. It now serves 33 clients from all of Greater Bethlehem.

Our Goals

Here at the Center, emphasis is given to programs teaching the essentials of daily life. Students learn skills in social interaction as well as personal hygiene and self care. Additionally, we have developed programs that nurture a sense of creativity, providing opportunity for students to display artisanship in skills such as olive wood carving, weaving, recycling paper, and creating recycled fuel for heating the Center.
